ITManagement101 is a practical blog for the people who keep business systems running: IT managers, operations staff and project leads. It is written from the operations side of IT, where a system has to be up, the overnight work has to finish, and a plan has to land on the date it promised.
Who writes it
I’m Linda Garrould. In the early 2000s I ran AS/400 Operations at Bertram Books Limited in Norwich.
Bertram was a busy, 24×7, multi-site distribution and internet-fulfilment business. It stocked more than half a million titles and fulfilled orders direct to consumers on behalf of Amazon and the other major online retailers. The AS/400 sat at the centre of all of it, around the clock.
Bertram Books ceased trading during the Covid pandemic. My interest in the platform did not. Garrould Limited and I have kept a professional interest in the AS/400 and its successor, IBM i, ever since. That is why the AS/400 command cheat sheet and the AS/400 operating system introduction remain at the heart of this site.
Today I am Head of IT at a regional law firm. Alongside that, I help companies with AI adoption and with improving their websites’ usability, accessibility, performance and conversion rates.
